About Me

Dennis at the Mayan theaterI have been living in Guatemala and Mexico most of the last seven years, including some great years in the town of San Pedro La Laguna at Lake Atitlan in Guatemala. In the last month of 2009 my wife and I, along with our adopted dog Lucy, moved to the Mexican state of Chiapas.

I have been fascinated by the Mayan world since I was a small child. One of my first trips to Mexico was when I was five years old. My parents along with my uncle J. Floyd and myself went to the Yucatan where we spent most of our time climbing around archaeological sites. I remember, though vaguely, being treated like royalty by the people in the country there. I was the first blue eyed white child many of the locals had ever seen. In 1965 tourism in the Yucatan Peninsula was not what it is today. That trip and others which followed instilled an interest in Mayan history and a love of Mayan peoples I have to this day.

I developed a passion for photography in my 20’s and have been selling my photography professionally for the last 10 years. I designed my first website back in 2000 and work as a web designer and social media consultant. I am available for hire to help design and implement your business’s website or for contract photography work in Guatemala and southern Mexico. For more info on rates, email me at dennis@mayantrip.com and we can discuss your needs.

I believe society should empower the people, not the corporations.

  1. Nice to meet you at the Gatemala imigration office in December. Look forward to running into you around town some time. Have enjoyed your blogs, very nice pics… my mom has been wanting to get out and take pics for a “San Cris old door” photo album forever. She keeps talking about it, never has. She will enojy yours.

  2. Hi,

I will be traveling to Chiapas for an extended period of time. I have read much about my native Mexico, but never had the chance to explore the beauty of Chiapas.

I have read extensibly about the movement but reserve my political views until I live among the people.

    I enjoy reading your blog.
